Garage Door Opener Repair

Questions and Answers

Can anyone help me find repair parts for my garage door opener?

Admin: You will want to visit the following web site for information from Stanley, and one of the instructions gave an e-mail to contact them if you can satisfy the following:
a) the product was manufactured by The Stanley Works (prior to 1997)
b) the product is covered by a warranty issued by The Stanley Works
c) have a copy of their warranty and product documentation

There is a problem with this brand of door opener. Stanley Works has not made or sold garage doors or garage door openers since 1997.

Stanley may already have a source for you, I would suggest e-mailing them using the address on the web site I listed above.

What all this means is that you may need to contact a door repair shop close to your home for alternate sources for repairing your opener. If they don’t carry parts, perhaps they would have a cheap workaround. Hope this helps.

Should I repair or replace my garage door opener?
It was here when we bought the house so it’s at least 7 years old and probably older. One day it worked, the next day it didn’t. It appears to be the unit itself that’s the problem, not the remote.

Admin: A new one costs a couple hundred bucks depending on the model, so if there is anyway it can be repaired easily, you should probably give it a shot.

If you have a manual for the opener, go to the troubleshooting page and give it a shot. Most of them are decent and will give you some idea what needs to be done or a least narrow down you possibilities.

If you don’t have a manual find the manufacturer’s name and get the model and serial number from the opener’s housing. You will probably need a ladder for this, so be careful and have someone hold it while you are up there. Once you have that information you might be able to find a manual online or call the manufacturing and they can send you one through e-mail or snail mail.

Calling a someone to repair it might work, but check around for estimates, compare, and get an estimate before setting up an appointment. Make sure the repair service is able to service your type of opener.
